Seaport Monthly Pop-Up Spotlights Black-Owned Retail

BOSTON —  WS Development and Boston Seaport have announced the return of “Seaport x Black Owned Bos. Market,” taking place one Sunday per month from noon to 6 p.m., on Seaport Common beginning April 25 and running through October 17. The market first appeared at Seaport in a one-day pop-up in August 2020, then returned in October 2020. The market will include more than 30 Black-owned businesses from throughout the greater Boston area. Visitors will find art, skincare, house plants, and adult and children’s clothing.

 

All vendors featured at the market are members of Black Owned Bos.’s local network. Each vendor will be featured in a tented area on Seaport Common, providing a safe pop-up location to showcase and sell their goods. Numerous COVID-related precautions will be implemented at the market. All market guests must RSVP via EventBrite for contact tracing. Guests will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis and are encouraged to limit their shopping to 30 minutes.

Zappos Tests Physical Retail Concept at Brookfield’s Mall St. Matthew

LOUISVILLE, KY. — Zappos is testing a brick-and-mortar store concept called Zappos! Unboxed that will open today, April 23, at Mall St. Matthews in Louisville. According to the Louisville Courier Journal, the 18,750 square-foot store will offer Zappos.com products, coupled with interactive, experiential elements such as a giant retro illuminated pegboard and a noise and sound art installation, called the "ShoeZaphone," donated to the company by the Blue Man Group.

Fraser Festival for Autism Returns to Mall of America

BLOOMINGTON, MINN. — Mall of America will host the Fraser Festival for Autism on May 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the north parking lot. The rebranded event, which was formerly known as the Fraser Walk for Autism, is presented by Central Roofing Company. The festival supports Minnesotans with autism and raises acceptance and awareness in the community.

 

This year's event will be outdoors to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The festival is a sensory and family-friendly event that is open to the public and features a drive-thru parade of activities attendees can enjoy from their vehicles. Fraser staff and volunteers will complete a wellness screening before arrival, wear masks and practice social distancing. Gloves and grabbers will be used to hand items to participants.

 

The festival will feature animals from North Star Therapy Animals, bubbles, music, giveaways and a virtual reality experience from REM5. Participants will be greeted by Fraser staff, volunteers and event partners who will hand out goodies and cheer attendees on. The festival is for individuals with autism and the community that supports them.

 

Showfields Opens New Store Concept at Roosevelt Field

GARDEN CITY, N.Y — Showfields has opened a new store concept called MagicBox by Showfields at Simon’s Roosevelt Field Mall, according to longisland.com. Showfields, with two stores open in Miami and New York, is known for showcasing digital brands and allowing them to set up physical stores in a department store-style environment without much overhead or long-term leases. MagicBox focuses on mission-based brands and emerging artists. The store at Roosevelt Field features 15 brands, including Twice Toothpaste (co-founded by Lenny Kravitz), Caraway, Theragun, Each & Every and more.

 

Asheville Outlets Announces May Opening of The Southern Loft

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Asheville Outlets and New England Development’s Pop-Up and Specialty Leasing Program have opened The Southern Loft. The North Carolina-based boutique offers women’s fashions, home items and gifts. The Southern Loft also features a wide array of customized items.

 

“We are excited to bring our small-town boutique style to the Asheville Outlets,” says Jessica Garrick, owner of The Southern Loft. “The Southern Loft features fashionable clothing, jewelry, and other accessories at affordable prices, as well as handpicked home decor goods with a farmhouse touch.”

 

Asheville Outlets is home to about 70 retailers and restaurants and was developed by New England Development. The open-air lifestyle destination is located at the intersection of I-40 and I-26 at Brevard Road.
